Consent laws need to be strengthened in NSW

I made a contribution to the Crimes Legislation Amendment (Sexual Consent Reforms) Bill 2021 before the Parliament of NSW.

Sexual assault continues to be a major health, welfare and Criminal Justice issue in NSW, and throughout the nation.

Reforms need to occur within the NSW Criminal Justice System to better protect those who have experienced sexual assault by clarifying the meaning of consent, including the ways in which consent can be communicated, and by expanding the scope of situations where consent does not occur.

This will assist in the prosecution of perpetrators and assist victims that experienced the horrendous crime of sexual assault.
