Thank you Superintendent Garry Merryweather

I addressed the Parliament of NSW to speak on the extraordinary bravery of one remarkable NSW Police Force superintendent and a team of NSW Ambulance paramedics.

Superintendent Garry Merryweather was first on scene when a lone protester carrying a poster and knife held up traffic on the Harbour Bridge during peak hour last Friday.

He acted quickly after witnessing the protester wound himself in the stomach with the knife in the middle of the road before dousing himself in petrol.

Superintendent Merryweather snatched both the knife and cigarette lighter from the man so paramedics could tend to his injuries. The man was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital and is now in a stable condition.

Thank you for your service and your bravery.
