I made a contribution to the debate on the Modern Slavery Amendment Bill 2021.
Modern Slavery, is a violent and debilitating reality which, in one way or another, affects our entire community of NSW. The clothes we wear, the goods we own, the foods we consume, very likely involve modern slavery throughout the supply chain process.
The NSW government failed to proclaim the Modern Slavery Act 2018, despite the Bill being passed unanimously by both Houses in the Parliament of NSW.
Unfortunately, the Modern Slavery Amendment Bill 2021 fails to do its part to safeguard our community and broader the Asia-Pacific region against the practices of modern slavery.
The NSW Government must make significant amendments to this Bill to best tackle modern slavery practices in and involving NSW.
